Recognized as a master of contemporary realism, Pearlstein has painted powerful immortal nudes since the 1960's. His larger-than-life figures occupy the entire canvas. Characterized by unorthodox angles; the compositions of brightly colored objects, patterned rugs and figures creates a tableau that is portrayed under a flat unrelenting light. The juxtaposition and angular placement of enigmatic objects and figures creates a visual tension that is transferred to the viewer, encouraging them to interpret the meaning of these powerful pictures.
