Cynthia Packard April 3 - 26, 2008 Cynthia Packard is part of an artistic lineage that started with her great-grandfather, Max Bohm. Bohm was a respected Impressionist painter from the turn of the century. Her mother, Anne Packard, is a renowned landscape artist. Cynthia Packard was an honors student at Massachusetts College of Art where she received a BFA. After college she returned to Provincetown where she studied with Frits Bultman. Her five years with Bultman influenced Packard greatly and he remained her mentor until his death. Packard’s work has also been influenced by such modern masters as Balthus, Bonnard, Diebenkorn, Matisse and Modigliani. By applying tar, wax, shellac and plaster she creates a dramatic surface in which the subject matter becomes more abstract. Packard is a gifted colorist with a strong sense of composition and form. |
